Seemingly endless sunshine resulted in an unusually early, magnificent harvest (one of the exceptional vintages of the Champagne region). Grape harvesters going to bathe in the Marne in the evening… Behind these bucolic images was hidden a more harsh reality however: vinegrowers worked hard throughout the year harvesting grapes which they only knew at the last minute if they would be able to sell. Following the 1947 grape harvest, three of them (Ange Cléophas FRANSORET, Jean CADESTIN and Paul DEHU) were no longer prepared to accept this permanent uncertainty and decided to pool their expertise in order to make and sell wines: on 26 February 1948, they created the "Coopérative vinicole de Mancy - Champagne ESTERLIN".
